CONS: Consumes a considerably larger amount of energy than the Linear Diaphragm style pumps, fairly noisy when operating, a bit more difficult to wire and connect the airline to compared to the Linear Diaphragm style, the unit must be covered with some sort of housing.
The Gast Rotary Vane septic aerator is the work horse of all of our air pumps. These motors are very durable, and work great in situations where high back pressures are going to be present. They even work great in pond aeration applications. They require little maintenance and repair parts are readily available. If treated propery you could see 12 to 15 years of overall operation out of this unit. However, with its longevity comes a few drawbacks. The Gast Rotary Vane pumps require quite a bit more electricity usage in order to operate, and are quite a bit louder than its counterpart the Linear Diaphragm pumps. These pumps also must be covered and protected from the elements and cannot simply set outside on their own. Overall the Gast Rotary Vane is a great unit. If you are looking for an aerator with a long life and do not mind putting up with a little more noise, the Gast Rotary Vane is the air pump for you.
