SepAerator® Saver Package Plus - Alternative to Shaft Aerators Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the frequently asked questions about the SepAerator® Saver Package Plus - Alternative Air Pump System to Shaft Aerators Part Number: SaverPkgPlus. If you have further questions, call our support staff toll-free at +1-(877)-925-5132 or email us at sales@septicsolutions.com
Is the SepAerator compatible with my OEM alarm and control panel?
The SepAerator system can be powered through the OEM control panel using the outlet that already exists at the tank for the shaft aerator. However, the linear diaphragm style pumps do not fail in the same way that the shaft aerator motors do.
The OEM control panels have a small circuit breaker that will trip when the shaft aerator locks up and pulls high amps. When this circuit breaker trips, the alarm is triggered. When the linear diaphragm pumps fail, they stop producing airflow and will turn off which the OEM panel will not be able to detect.
For this reason, the existing alarm will not function with the SepAerator system. If you would like to keep a functional alarm, we would recommend adding one of our alarm options to the package.
Is the SepAerator an approved replacement for the shaft aerator?
The SepAerator has not been tested or certified by NSF. Only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components carry the original NSF approval for the complete system.
That said, the SepAerator functions as an equivalent in terms of how the system operates and the quality of the treated effluent discharged from the tank.
However, acceptance as a replacement depends on local regulations. It's the buyer's responsibility to verify with your local regulatory authorities (such as the health department, environmental agency, or permitting office) whether this type of aftermarket aerator or retrofit system will be approved for installation or use in your area.
Should I run the SepAerator on a timer?
We recommend continuous operation. The Hiblow air pump included in the system uses a very small amount of electricity and the system will have overall better performance with the aerator running 24/7/365.
What is the difference between the Saver and Saver Plus packages?
The Saver package does not include an enclosure for the air pump, while the Saver Plus package does include the air pump base and cover.
The air pumps are rated for direct outdoor use, but we recommend the cover if the air pump will be installed in a location exposed to the elements as an extra layer of protection.
Can I remote locate the air pump?
Yes! The air pump for the SepAerator can be placed anywhere within 100 feet of the septic tank.
You just need to:
- Supply electrical power to the pump location
- Run an appropriately sized airline tubing from the pump to the diffuser assembly inside the tank
This flexibility allows you to position the pump in a convenient spot—such as near your home's electrical outlet, in a garage, basement, shed, or another protected area—while still delivering air effectively to the tank. Just make sure the airline is properly sized, protected from damage, and installed according to local codes and manufacturer guidelines.
